Apply to Volunteer

BSides is a volunteer-run, community-supported organization. Everyone that volunteers or are staff for BSides DFW are unpaid volunteers. That's the wonder of our community, we're here because we want to be, not because we're getting paid.

Organizing and running the BSides events takes a small village. You can be part of that! Here are some things we typically need every year. If you're interested in helping, drop us a line at info@bsidesdfw.com.

Workshop Host

Long-term commitment

Bring your skills to the event and teach a class or workshop! Hosts may need to be available for meetings before the event to help with coordination. Have an idea for a workshop? Let's talk!

Village Host

Long-term commitment

Help run the Hardware Hacking, LockSport or Lockpicking, and other villages. Should be a subject matter expert in the area that can teach attendees of all ages and skill-levels. Hosts are responsible for bringing materials and monitoring their room/table/space. Hosts may need to be available for meetings before the event to help with coordination. Pre-Event Setup

Pre-Event

Assist with unloading event gear from vehicles, ensuring all equipment is securely stored in designated rooms, and setting up directional signs or marking parking spaces around the venue. Help with minor organizational tasks to prepare for the main event.

Early Event Setup

Help sponsors set up booths, prganize coffee stations and other event areas, ensure everything is ready before attendees arrive.

Registration Desk

Day Of Event

Greet attendees as they arrive, manage the check-in process (check names against the attendee list, provide badges), distribute event T-shirts to attendees, answer basic event-related questions, direct attendees to the Information Desk for more complex queries.

Information Desk

Day Of Event

Provide event information to attendees (schedule, room locations, etc.), assist with general attendee questions, help sponsors or speakers if they have any last-minute needs, ensure attendees know where to go for workshops or speaker tracks, greet people as they come in, monitor doors, keep a general eye on the venue area and coffee stations.

Day Of Event

Help ensure smooth flow during talks, introduce speakers, monitor attendee behavior, manage crowd control, and ensure no disruptions occur during talks, assist the speaker with setup if needed (check microphones, ensure presentations are ready)

Teardown

Post-Event

Assist with breaking down tables, chairs, and equipment used throughout the event, help pack up sponsor materials and any event gear, ensure all event spaces are left clean and organized.

Wanting to contribute more?

Interested in helping become an organizer for the event? These are the most time-consuming volunteer roles available. These include selecting a venue, assisting with the call for papers, creating advertisements, finding sponsors, and more. Organizing may require regular meetings outside of work hours. Organizers are expected to be able to communicate professionally, be reliable, and proactive in helping make BSides DFW successful.

Security BSides Dallas - Fort Worth was founded to facilitate the exchange of information and the development of relationships. We welcome and encourage the expression and debate of ideas. We also recognize that we do not have to agree in order to listen to, and/or understand, a given point of view. However, there is a language and a behaviour that is appropriate and expected in achieving that discourse.

Harassment and/or abusive behaviour will not be tolerated.

Any participant that experiences and/or witnesses inappropriate behaviour is expected to report said behaviour to event staff.

Any participant that experiences and/or witnesses inappropriate behaviour is encouraged to ask the offending individual to stop.

Any participant asked to stop a behaviour is expected to comply immediately.

Event organizers reserve the right to respond to observed and/or reported behaviour in a manner deemed appropriate, including but not limited to expulsion without refund and referral to the relevant authorities.
